💬 Thursday Thread: How are you fighting back?
It's important in this moment that women find and pull the levers of power available to them
FIRST AN ANNOUNCEMENT: Our next Playing with Fire Zoom meetup will take place NEXT WEEK. Join me and Kaitlin Soule, a therapist specializing in ADHD, on Thurs, Feb 27th at 12 pm PT / 3 pm ET. So many of you responded positively to my piece on what it’s like to be a woman grappling with ADHD in midlife, and then after interviewing so many women with ADHD for my upcoming book, I knew there was a bigger conversation to be had. So put the date in your calendar to join this community for a get-together. If you have a question for Kaitlin, click here to submit it, and we’ll get through as many as possible during our Zoom. (Link to join us to come.)

On Tuesday, I published a post about the role of women in resisting autocracy and the expert advice from eight women on how we can all fight back … and win. These women—from activists to physicians to lawmakers—remind us how important it is to use our voice, take care of ourselves, and focus on the levers of power we can pull.
I know first-hand through my activism with Moms Demand Action that women ARE the resistance. We never back down. Persistence is our superpower. And when we act, we can make real, lasting change.
👉 For today’s Thursday thread, here’s what I’d like to know:
Do you feel overwhelmed or stuck right now? If yes, why? If not, can you tell us what you’re doing?
What advice resonates the most with you about how to fight back against the Trump administration?
Welcome to the Thursday Threads, a weekly chance for us to connect with one another in the comments. Join me and other readers as we navigate important discussions. And a note: a difference of opinion is always okay, being unkind to one another is not. Let’s keep these conversations respectful.
My upcoming book, Fired Up: How to Turn Your Spark Into a Flame and Come Alive at Any Age, is now available for preorder! This book is my guide to figuring out what lights you up and will show you how to live on fire every day. Click here to preorder and get locked into some incredible bonuses.
I'm a human rights worker. As part of my day job working to end the death penalty (alongside Sister Helen Prejean--author of Dead Man Walking), we created a communal playlist of music designed to buoy people's spirits in tough times. We originally launched Sister Helen's Justice Train Playlist during Trump's first term, It's still running the rails and, from the feedback we've received, proving helpful for those who feel overwhelmed but want to keep in the struggle. You can listen, and suggest a song, at https://www.sisterhelen.org/justice-train-playlist-2025.
I stepped back from my leadership role with Moms Demand Action after the election. And after the election, I felt like the most important thing I could do was establish connections with the women around me who I know were struggling like I was, and help them connect with each other. So about 10-12 of us have been meeting monthly since November, sharing our anger and fears but also taking small actions as we figure out a larger course forward. So far this has looked like making sandwiches for a local food kitchen. But tonight a few of us are attending a town hall with our US Congressional representative. Next week, a few more of us are attending our first Indivisible meeting. And we are also planning a smash outing (where we take sledgehammers to things for 15 minutes!).
I learned so much about the importance of a women's village in my decade with Moms Demand. And I hope my friends and I can keep this group going. We have gotten a lot of inspiration from sharing your posts (10 things you can do, the Mansophere, etc.) and I know the key to protecting our families and communities is taking action together.
