💬 Thursday Thread: Tell us about an obscure Firestarter we need to know
In honor of International Women's Day, let's talk about the women who have made a difference, but who haven't had their due

There are so many amazing women to admire and honor for International Women's Day. I'm interested in learning about the Firestarters who history may have overlooked or even purposefully removed from the narrative.
Women like Claudette Colvin, who refused to give up her bus seat to a white person months before Rosa Parks. Or Nellie Bly, an investigative journalist who exposed the unfair treatment of asylum patients in New York City (and set a world record for circumnavigating the globe in 1889). Or Rosalind Franklin, who discovered the double helix structure of DNA but was not awarded the Nobel Prize. Or Viola Liuzzo, a mother of five from Detroit who drove to Selma to support protesters and was killed by Klan members.
👉 For today’s Thursday thread, here’s what I’d like to know:
Which Firestarter do you admire who hasn’t been given enough accolades, and what do we need to know about her?
Welcome to the Thursday Threads, a weekly chance for us to connect with one another in the comments. Join me and other readers as we navigate important discussions. And a note: a difference of opinion is always okay, being unkind to one another is not. Let’s keep these conversations respectful.
My upcoming book, Fired Up: How to Turn Your Spark Into a Flame and Come Alive at Any Age, is now available for preorder! This book is my guide to figuring out what lights you up and will show you how to live on fire every day. Click here to preorder and get locked into some incredible bonuses.
Mary Ellen Withrow. 40th Treasurer of the US, under Bill Clinton. She is my neighbor & sounding board. She is (I believe) 94 years young and very active. She was the first (& I still believe only) person to hold the position of Treasurer at the local, state, and federal levels of government. She was part of the redesign of the monetary notes in the 90’s with her signature. She has broken glass ceilings & is an incredible inspiration.
A current Firestarter - Emma Bates, CEO of startup Diem.
As she describes it "Diem is a search engine that feels like you're asking questions in a girl's bathroom at 1am.". Sounds like she's building a great platform to provide kindling for new firestarters.
