Weekly roundup of things that are 🔥🔥🔥
From Mitt Romney's tea to red pleather skirts to tongue kissing bachelors
I’m going to try to swing by this exhibit of American quilts from different time periods and cultures at New York City's American Folk Art Museum while I’m in town next week.
This conversation with Sen. Mitt Romney was something — he really spilled the tea on his Republican colleagues in Congress. ☕
I’m loving the show Still Up… Quirky but not corny rom-com about two best friends bonded by insomnia and how they stay connected throughout the night.
However, the jury is still out on whether I can continue to endure the Golden Bachelor (a fellow Hoosier!). So, so much tongue kissing and crying… But I can’t look away. 👀
I just splurged on this cherry red pleather skirt for an event in NYC. It’s the color of the season and I can wear it with anything. 🍒
I also bought this Barbie pink Boden winter wool coat — it’s a steal compared to the cost of other long, dressy winter coats at department stores…
While we wait for new music from Frank Ocean, Omar Apollo (also a fellow Hoosier from Hobart) is scratching my “introspective psych-soul balladeer” itch. 🎶
Other new music I’m loving: “In the Throes” by Buddy & Julie Miller; “Javelin” by Sufjan Stevens; “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess” by Chappell Roan; “I Am What I’m Waiting For” by Kendra Morris.
Speaking of music, I just got tickets to see U2 in The Sphere later this month and cannot wait 🤗
If you haven’t read the book “The Heart’s Invisible Furies” by John Boyle, you must. Like right now. The book is reportedly being turned into a television series by director Ridley Scott. 📚
Other books I highly recommend: “On Our Best Behavior: The Seven Deadly Sins and the Price Women Pay to be Good,” by
; ”Burn It Down: Power, Complicity, and a Call for Change in Hollywood” by Maureen Ryan; and “The Many Daughters of Afong Moy” by .Also recently listened to this long-read — “My Delirious Trip to the Heart of Swiftiedom” — in the New York Times magazine via the newspaper’s new audio app. It’s about the people you meet sitting in the nosebleed section of Taylor Swift’s Eras tour. I don’t think there’s anyone who writes a better celebrity profile than Taffy Brodesser-Akner. 📰
If I told you how many podcasts I listen to per week, you wouldn’t believe me. A few recent episodes I found riveting: “How to be less judgmental (of other people and yourself” on Ten Percent Happier; “Contending with fear” on Pulling the Thread; “I’m here to ask the important questions” on Vibe Check. 🎧
I just returned from Japan and I think this would make an amazing gameshow. 🎌
Let me know if you enjoyed these recommendations… This is the first newsletter format I’ve done. Happy Friday and have the weekend you deserve!
DAMNNNN those Mitt Romney quotes! 🔥🔥🔥
Love these recommendations. I'm a huge U2 fan and have been since I was in high school in the 80's. Have seen all of their concerts they have had in DC.
The pleather skirt--gorgeous. Hope you post some pics so we can see how fabulous you look in it.
