I’ve spent most of the past year working on a book, and now that my June finish line is in sight, I’m collecting a whole bunch of books on my Kindle to read as soon as I’m done, including “Did I Ever Tell You?” by Genevieve Kingston; “If You Can't Take the Heat: Tales of Food, Feminism, and Fury” by Geraldine DeRuiter; and “The Age of Grievance” by Frank Bruni. Also, here’s New York Magazine’s take on the best books of 2024 so far. 📚
We’ve officially entered the era of “mid” television: shows that have a great cast, a compelling storyline, and cinematic vibes, but they’re still just meh. In that vein, I would say these good (but not great) shows that are still worth your time: Ripley, a remake of “The Talented Mr. Ripley” starring Andrew Scott, the hot priest from Fleabag; Manhunt, a limited series that dramatizes the shooting of Lincoln and the hunt for John Wilkes Booth; and Hacks, a show I want to love but it never quite lives up to its promise. 📺
Big news about menopause! Actor Halle Berry went to Capitol Hill and shouted “I'm in menopause!” and women everywhere said, “Amen!” Berry was joined by a group of bipartisan senators on Capitol Hill Thursday to push for legislation that would put $275 million towards research and education around menopause. Sadly, too late for our mothers, but just in time for Gen X and our kids. 🧓
I love Warby Parker sunglasses because they’re colorful, durable and relatively inexpensive. Thanks to my ADHD, I lose them a lot — here are the pairs I keep ordering: Waller in Plantain Crystal and Nancy in Rose Crystal. 👓
Speaking of ADHD, my Substack post about ADHD in Gen X women hit a chord with many of you who have spent a lifetime either undiagnosed and/or untreated. I discuss my own ADHD journey and how I’ve attempted to manage it and several comorbidities for decades. ✍️
So much new music! Here’s some new music I’m loving (besides Taylor Swift, of course): “Light Verse” by Iron & Wine; “Ooh La La” by Guster; “Shadow” by Lizz Wright; and anything from the last two albums by Waxahatchee (going to see her in concert in Oakland later this month). Also, this is my vote for the song of the summer — what’s yours? 🎵
I plan on living in this dress this summer, which is problematic because there are only two colors. 👗
There are many great art exhibits across the US this month, including 150 works of painting, sculpture, photography, film, and ephemera made between the 1920s and ’40s, at the Met showcasing the glory of the Harlem Renaissance when Black art and creativity flowed through this magnetic, mythologized neighborhood. 🖼️
How do we feel about the new collab between Kraft Heinz and Ed Sheeran? They just launched new hot sauces under the brand “Tingly Ted’s,” the artist’s childhood nickname and/or the 6-foot-tall bear named Ted who graphically represents his condiments. The sauces come in Tingly and Xtra Tingly. I didn’t realize the British were known for their great taste in spices… 🌶️

Cannot go wrong when you lead with the Hot Priest. 🔥
