Meet Firestarter Josephine Baker, a badass resistance spy. She was born in St. Louis in 1906, and moved to France at age 19. Josephine emigrated with the hope of leaving the racism that hindered her American aspirations behind. She quickly became famous for her singing and dancing, but then joined the resistance during World War II.
Thank you for this profile - I've long admired Josephine and hope to visit her chateau in the Dordogne, now a museum of her life.
For the story of another truly remarkable WWII female agent, known as "Churchill's favorite spy," check out the book The Spy Who Loved.
I k ew she worked as a spy but didn't know these details. Wonderful piece!!! Thank You!!
