I just re-watched GIRLS and damn if it doesn't hold up. Favorite books were Friday Afternoon Club by Griffin Dunne, From Here to the Great Unknown by Lisa Marie Presley, and Sociopath by Patric Gagne. Music is totally age inappropriate: Suki Waterhouse, Charli XCX, Chappell Roan and Taylor (per Spotify).

Whenever I have needed a mental break this year I turn to my music. I either sit at my piano and play or I put my vinyls on my new record player I bought this yaer or play my favorite CD's. I also read three books this year. I haven't read a book in like 10 years. I read, Lead From the Outside by Stacy Abrams, The Joy of Politics by Amy Klobuchar and THe Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. All great books. And I think the most important thing, with the help of some guided meditation that I have gotten back into, was that I have accepted all my medical issues and decided that I was not going to let those issues bring me down and think that I had to give up my life and stop living. I realized that I have the power to overcome anything and fight through these issues. I may not recover from all of them completely but I can improve most of them and possibly overcome a few of them completely. SO, I am fighting through everyone of them. Physical therapy, testing, healthy eating, the guided meditation, and living. By living I mean going places that I love. I still travel down to DC every few months whenevfer the urge hits. It only takes my 2 1/2 hours to get there. Sometimes I go for the day and sometime I go overnight. I go for day trips in my own state to places I have always wanted to see and never have, even though I grew up here and have always found my way back. And now owning the childhood house I grew up in. Life is good now. You have to learn how to take your own power back, and I did that!

Roseann, your comment made me smile. I’m sorry to hear you are dealing with medical issues and so happy to hear you have recognized the power within to heal yourself. Tapping into my power and accepting all of me as I currently am, have been the themes this past year both of which I hope to delve deeper into with the help of meditation and spiritual guidance from Peter Crone and Abraham Hick as my journey back to self love through unbecoming continues. Wishing you a healthy and magical new year!

ReReading All the Light We cannot See by Herr Siedler, my favorite book, watching the movie Wicked 1 For the second time with my two granddaughters. I also loved the book The Hate U give, both the book and the movie, watching for the 15th time, Michelle Obama's speech at the convention, and for all the great people I talked with this past year both for Kamala and for Moms Demand Action.

Love that you re-read All the Light We Cannot See as I am excited to read it for the first time. It seems to be calling me as the name of the orphanage is my maiden name β€œWerner”. For Christmas I gifted my husband Cloud Cuckoo Land which is also by Anthony Doerr and will make time to read it in 2025.

Music: The Last Dinner Party's album Prelude to Ecstasy-so freaking fun! Book: I listened to all of Samantha Irby's books on Audible this year and actually LOL'ed all through them--not for the squeamish though. Podcast: Wiser Than Me by Julia Louis-Dreyfus. In a sea of podcast options, it's the crown jewel IMHO

What a great question- I’m so looking forward to trying everyone’s favorites! The best TV we’ve watched this year is Day of the Jackal on Peacock. Heads and Tails above everything else. My late afternoon downtime TV is Murder In on Amazon Prime. It’s a French series in French and it’s beautiful - in every way, even though it’s a murder mystery in a different town in France every episode. Favorite Book this year: Between Two Kingdoms - Suleika Jaoud. One of the most powerful, moving, uplifting, inspiring books- I just keep going back to it. And for a novel - The Henna Artist - can’t wait to read the next one in this trilogy. And lastly podcasts - Anderson Cooper’s All There Is is supporting me through my grief journey after losing two of my three siblings in four months. And a really different one - Therapists Off The Clock- this is a group of young therapists who have on other young therapists and health professionals . I find their views to be different and thought provoking. I’ve read a couple of great books that I would not have picked up otherwise .

TV: I love reality television, especially to shut off my over-active brain, and this year I felt myself gravitating toward shows like The Traitors, Special Forces, and The Summit.

So much great music this year! Brat (+ all the remixes) gave me life when I needed it most. Seeing the show live was a special bonus. Ooo La La by one of my all time faves, Guster, is absolutely gorgeous.

My favorite pod of the year has to be Strict Scrutiny (about the Supreme Court and legal/court culture). The hosts are incredibly brilliant and also devastatingly funny. They make me feel sane despite it all.
